Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA)

A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal provides an initial assessment of a site’s ecological value and identifies potential constraints to development. It includes a site walkover survey and desk-based review to determine the presence of habitats and protected species, and sets out recommendations for further surveys, mitigation, or enhancements required to support a planning application.

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)

Biodiversity Net Gain assesses how a development can deliver measurable improvements to biodiversity, in line with national planning requirements. Using the DEFRA Biodiversity Metric, we calculate existing ecological value and design practical strategies to achieve at least a 10% net gain through on-site enhancements, off-site contributions, or habitat creation, supported by a compliant Biodiversity Gain Plan.

Ecological Enhancement Plans (EEP)

An Ecological Enhancement Plan sets out practical measures to enhance biodiversity as part of a development, often required to discharge planning conditions. It details features such as bat and bird boxes, native planting, habitat connectivity, and long-term management, ensuring ecological enhancements are delivered in line with planning policy and retained for the lifetime of the development.
