The Hibernating Bats in the UK course by Richard Green Ecology is an in-depth 1-day course that explores the fascinating world of hibernating bats in the UK. The course covers various topics, including why and where bats hibernate, threats, conservation, and survey requirements. It includes practical fieldwork to see hibernating bats, with species almost guaranteed to be seen such as Lesser & Greater Horseshoe bats, Natterer’s, Daubenton’s, Whiskered/Brandt’s bats, and the possibility of Bechstein’s bat.
Entering the mines we were tasked to record the bats present, a total of 2 Bechstein’s, 55 Lesser, 22 Greater, 16 Daubs 2 Whiskered/Brandt’s and 5 Natterers. Overall a fantastic day out on the South coast.
