Bat box checks: we were looking for soprano pipistrelles. The first bat box checked contained a Daubenton's bat, seen in the top image. It was the first of its kind to be found in one of these bat boxes. They are part of the NBD medium myotis group. They are identified by their large feet, muddy white belly, and ears that are longer than their snout. They look similar to a Natterer's bat, but the Natterer's bat has a very white belly, longer ears, and looks more like a fox.

Multiple soprano pipistrelles were caught and marked in pink. They are often mistaken for common pipistrelles, but generally have more orange glands and reproductive organs.
